just a bit about meā¦
My name is Jen Alfaro and Ive been doing hair for over 12 years now. Well, let me clarify⦠Iāve been licensed for 12 years, but my curiosity for the world of hair and beauty has been there since I can remember! Growing up and all throughout high school you could find me acting as kitchen beautician to all my friends, family, and any willing participant. I had a blast creating looks, not even really sure what I was doing, but I did have an understanding of color, shape, and structure that I attribute to my many, many years of being an artist.
I always thought this was just a hobby that I was into, but it never occurred to me that it could be my life calling. You see, by this time, I was enrolled in college as a biology major to become a veterinarian and my deep dive of studying sciences began.
After a few years of college, science classes, and working at animal health care facilities, I concluded that I didnāt have the heart to be in that line of work. All the while, I continued creating hair looks at home. I came to the realization that I could become a cosmetologist by combining my passion of hair and beauty with my knowledge and curiosity of science.
The geek in me was so happy when I started cosmetology school. I truly felt like this is where I belonged and I put all my efforts into absorbing as much as I could. I didnāt want to just ādoā hair, I wanted to understand it molecularly, and get a better sense of what is happening chemically. I flew through school, graduated as quickly as possible, passed my State Board Exam with flying colors, and started right into a salon as an assistant. I was fueled by my passion and I knew this was the place for me.
Fast forward 12 years later and I am still that science geek with a passion for beauty. I am a forever student and am proud of all the advanced education I have invested in since graduating.
Throughout all these years I have also discovered the love of educating and sharing knowledge with fellow colorists. I started a YouTube channel in 2015 in hopes of sharing what I have learned to help others better understand the science behind what we do. It brings me such happiness when I receive messages letting me know I have helped someone better understand a particular subject that will, in-turn, make them a better artist.
I had the great pleasure of opening my first micro-salon in 2018, ChromaCrowns Studio, in Los Angeles, CA. Becoming a studio owner and building out my own creative space took me to a whole other level as a business owner. I dove deep into business education and all the back-end operations necessary to run a successful company. It fired up a different part of my brain and I can now say I oversee everything that has to do with my business. I am very proud of what I have built since then, including a second location in Orange County, ChromaCrowns OC.
I feel privileged to be able to offer my clientele the best experience in my very own creative space. Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little more about me and Iām looking forward to seeing you in my chair soon.
Love,
Jen
